In short: The Hubbell CS6364C is a 50A, 125/250V AC, 3-pole, 4-wire grounding California Style Twist-Lock® Insulgrip® connector, the female end of a cord. Oversized brass contacts keep operating temperature down, a two-piece external cord clamp gives maximum strain relief, and hex-socket box terminals accept #10–#6 AWG stranded copper on cord from .830" to 1.250". It mates with the CS6365C plug and CS6375 flanged inlet.

Built for heavy duty

Why choose the Hubbell CS6364C 50A connector?

The female end of a 50A cable takes the most abuse: it hangs off distro, gets dragged through mud and gets stepped on all day. Hubbell built its 50A Twist-Lock® devices with a super-tough nylon housing and rigid construction that restricts contact distortion, so the connector keeps a solid grip on the plug and only mates with the right device.

Oversized contacts

Larger brass contacts minimize operating temperature, which matters when a cable carries heavy loads for a full shoot day.

Tough nylon housing

Impact-resistant nylon stands up to heavy-duty use in harsh environments, from loading docks to outdoor event sites.

Two-piece external cord clamp

Offset gripping jaws hold both the conductors and the cord jacket for maximum strain relief on heavy 50A cable.

Hex-socket box terminals

A threaded slug with a hex socket applies high clamping pressure to the conductor without damaging strands.

Thermoplastic polyester interior

The terminal retainer and interior resist heat and impact, protecting the contacts where the current actually flows.

Rated to break full load

Certified for current interrupting at full rated current and tested to withstand 2,000V minimum dielectric. Listed to UL 498 and certified to CSA C22.2 No. 42.

On set & on show

Where is a 50A California Style connector used?

The 50A, 125/250V California Style twist-lock is a workhorse for single-phase power in film, video, live events and venues. The CS6364C is the female end you'll put on:

  • 50A extension cables, paired with a CS6365C plug on the other end
  • Feeders for distro boxes and equipment with CS6375 flanged inlets. Shop distro boxes
  • Generator-to-distro runs, as the far end of a 50A generator feeder cable
  • Cable repairs and rental-house rebuilds where a damaged connector needs a heavy-duty replacement
  • Venue, church and studio power drops that hang a 50A connector for touring or rental gear
  • Temporary event power for tents, stages, catering and OB vans

Installation overview

How do you wire a Hubbell CS6364C connector?

Always work de-energized and follow Hubbell's installation instructions for strip length and terminal torque.

  1. Check the cord. Confirm the cord's outside diameter is between .830" and 1.250" (21.08–31.75 mm) and the conductors are #10 to #6 AWG stranded copper.
  2. Strip to length. Remove the outer jacket and strip each conductor to the length shown in Hubbell's instructions.
  3. Land each conductor. Insert each conductor fully into its marked box terminal (X, Y, W and G).
  4. Tighten the terminals. Use a hex key to tighten each threaded slug to Hubbell's specified torque. The box design clamps hard without cutting strands.
  5. Assemble and clamp. Close the housing and tighten the two-piece cord clamp on the cord jacket, not on the individual conductors.

Mates & accessories

What plugs into the CS6364C?

The CS6364C accepts only 50A, 125/250V California Style male devices: the CS6365C plug on a cord or the CS6375 flanged inlet on a panel or box. California Style is not part of the NEMA L-series, and the rigid construction helps keep it from mating with the wrong device.

Questions

CS6364C frequently asked questions

What is the Hubbell CS6364C?

The CS6364C is a female Twist-Lock connector body for cord, rated 50A at 125/250V AC with 3 poles and 4 wires, including a grounding wire. It is a California Style device, a non-NEMA configuration, and mates with the CS6365C plug and CS6375 flanged inlet.

What plugs into the Hubbell CS6364C?

The CS6365C plug on a cord or the CS6375 flanged inlet on a panel or box. It only accepts 50A California Style male devices and will not mate with NEMA L-series plugs such as L14-30.

What is the difference between the CS6364C and CS6365C?

The CS6364C is the female connector that receives power, and the CS6365C is the male plug that plugs into a receptacle or connector. A CS6365C on one end and a CS6364C on the other makes a standard 50A California Style extension cable.

What wire size and cord diameter does the CS6364C accept?

The box terminals accept #10 AWG through #6 AWG stranded copper wire only, and the cord clamp fits cord with an outside diameter of .830 to 1.250 inch (21.08 to 31.75 mm).

Can the CS6364C be used outdoors or in wet locations?

For wet or outdoor locations, protect the connection with a Hubbell weatherproof boot. The HBL7716C is the short boot and the HBL7717C is the long boot for 50A Twist-Lock devices.

Is the Hubbell CS6364C UL listed?

Yes. It is listed to UL 498 and certified to CSA C22.2 No. 42. It is also certified for current interrupting at full rated current and withstands 2,000V minimum dielectric.

Why does the CS6364C have oversized contacts?

Oversized brass contacts minimize operating temperature. Running cooler matters on 50A cables that carry heavy loads for long periods, such as generator feeders and distro runs.

What temperatures can the CS6364C handle?

It is rated for 75°C maximum continuous and -40°C minimum, the low end without impact. The housing material is rated HB or better for flammability.
