The Motion Labs L21-30 Twistlock Cable is a 25-foot, UL-listed, 30-amp, 120/208V three-phase extension cable built with #8/5 SOW cord and black NEMA L21-30 locking connectors on both ends. It's designed to safely carry three-phase power from a distro, generator, or wall outlet to dimmers, power distribution units, and lighting equipment on film sets, broadcast stages, and live events.
When you need reliable three-phase power on set, the connection between your source and your distribution can't be the weak link. The Motion Labs L21-30 Twistlock 30A Cable delivers full 30-amp, 120/208 VAC three-phase power over a 25-foot run, using heavy-duty #8 AWG, 5-conductor SOW cable and genuine NEMA L21-30 locking connectors.
The twist-to-lock design keeps connections secure even when cables are tugged, stepped on, or dragged across a busy stage, which means fewer accidental disconnects in the middle of a take. The black SOW jacket resists oil, water, and abrasion, making it suitable for use on location, in studios, and in rental inventory that sees heavy daily use. Black connectors and cable also keep the run low-profile on camera and in audience-facing environments.
Every cable is UL listed, giving gaffers, best boys, and production electricians confidence that it meets recognized safety standards for portable power.
Key Features
True three-phase power. Rated at 30A, 120/208 VAC, 3-phase, 4-pole, 5-wire, with three hots, a neutral, and a dedicated ground for balanced loads and proper grounding.
Secure twistlock connections. NEMA L21-30 male plug and female connector lock in place with a quarter turn, preventing accidental unplugging on busy sets.
Heavy-duty #8/5 SOW cord. Eight-gauge copper conductors are properly sized for 30-amp service, wrapped in a rugged, flexible rubber jacket that's oil- and water-resistant.
UL listed. Built and tested to UL safety standards for professional and rental use.
Practical 25-foot length. Long enough to reach from distro to dimmer or PDU without excess cable to manage or coil.
Low-visibility black finish. Black cable and connectors blend into stage floors, truss, and dark set environments.
An L21-30 is a NEMA twist-locking connector rated for 30 amps at 120/208 volts, three-phase wye. It has five pins: three hot conductors (X, Y, Z), one neutral, and one ground.
At full rating, a 30A, 208V three-phase circuit supplies roughly 10.8 kVA. For continuous loads, the standard 80% rule (24 amps) gives about 8.6 kVA of usable power.
"8/5" means five conductors of 8 AWG copper wire. "SOW" indicates a Service-grade cable with an Oil-resistant jacket that is also Water/Weather-resistant, a common choice for portable power on film sets and live events.
8 AWG copper is appropriately sized for 30-amp portable service. Thinner wire can overheat under a sustained 30A load and cause excessive voltage drop over longer runs.
Not directly. The L21-30 is a three-phase connector. To power single-phase 120V devices, you'll need a breakout box or power distribution unit that splits the three-phase feed into individual 120V circuits.
L21-30 is a 5-wire, three-phase 120/208V connector. L14-30 is a 4-wire, single-phase 125/250V connector. The two are not interchangeable and won't physically mate.
Yes. This cable is UL listed for professional use.
Yes. With a male plug on one end and a female connector on the other, cables can be daisy-chained to extend a run. Keep in mind that longer total runs increase voltage drop.
